What the dates actually mean
First aid certificates last three years and there is no automatic renewal. Let one lapse and there is a 28 day grace period; miss that and your staff member repeats the full course instead of the shorter requalification. HSE recommends a three hour refresher each year in between, and paediatric first aid must run to a full 12 hours to count towards EYFS ratios.
