Chris Dyson, Director of Training at Omega Training
Director of training

Chris Dyson

Chris started out working directly with children and young people, coaching, mentoring and helping them build the communication skills, personal goals and confidence to move forward in their lives.

From there, he moved into residential care leadership, managing people and processes across multiple sites: recruitment, budgets, rotas and the day to day reality of keeping a staff team strong. He has supported managers through Regulation 44 and 45 inspections and worked closely with Ofsted, so he understands compliance from the inside, not just from the guidance documents.

That experience shapes how he trains. Chris designs every session to be practical enough to use on shift the same day, and meaningful enough to change how people think about their role. He is a firm believer in creating a homely environment where young people can reach their potential, and he expects the same warmth and consistency from the staff he trains.

Brett Pointon

Brett has been delivering first aid training since 2008 and has dedicated more than 20 years to working in the health and social care sector. Throughout his career he has trained thousands of people, helping them develop the confidence and skills needed to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

As a former First Responder with West Midlands Ambulance Service, Brett brings valuable real world experience to every course. He is also a former MAPPA and PRICE Intervention Trainer, giving him a broad understanding of managing risk, supporting people in challenging situations and promoting safe working practices.

Brett believes the best training is practical, engaging and enjoyable. His relaxed and friendly approach helps learners feel comfortable, ask questions and build confidence, while ensuring they leave with the knowledge and skills to make a real difference when it matters most. Whether he is training workplace teams, care staff, schools or community groups, Brett is passionate about empowering people to save lives and care for others with confidence.

Training should have value in the room, and value once everyone has left it

Stuart Smith, Clinical Educator at Omega Training
Clinical educator

Stuart Smith

Stu has been teaching for more than fifty years. He began in education, working with adults and young people with additional needs in Knowsley, before joining the ambulance service in 1977. The teaching never really stopped, it just moved into a different world.

He spent more than twenty years with Merseyside and Mersey Regional Ambulance Services as a paramedic, clinical educator and mentor. Since then he has supported newly qualified paramedics into practice, served on the Advanced Life Support faculty for the Resuscitation Council UK, assessed for Future Quals, Qualsafe and IHCD, and led the project teams that set up ambulance services in Lagos, Tripoli and the UAE. He was Head of Education at Elite EMS, and spent the pandemic supporting crews at two NHS ambulance trusts.

Stu teaches the way he worked, calmly and without drama, because that is what the moment needs. He holds instructor qualifications across first aid, paediatric first aid, FREC 3 and FREC 4, mental health first aid and manual handling, and he still learns something from every room he stands in front of.
