Twelve things you will know by the end

Residential Ready builds the essential knowledge and confidence to understand residential childcare and prepare for your first role. It is the course that gets you to the point where you can walk into an interview and talk about the work properly.

  • Safeguarding and child protection
  • Professional boundaries
  • Trauma informed practice
  • Understanding behaviour
  • Mental health, self injury and ligature awareness
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Health and safety, fire awareness, infection prevention
  • GDPR, data protection and recording
  • Whistleblowing
  • Medication awareness
  • Missing from care
  • Introduction to residential practice

Who it is for

Anyone considering a first role in residential childcare. You do not need experience, and you do not need a qualification to begin.

  • Residential Support Worker in a children's home
  • Support roles in supported accommodation for 16 and 17 year olds

What you gain

  • Safeguarding awareness
  • Professional practice
  • Clear, calm communication
  • Reflective practice

You finish able to walk into an interview and talk about the work properly, rather than hoping the questions stay easy.

What it does not do

This course builds knowledge. It does not make someone fully qualified, automatically compliant, or ready to work unsupervised.

Your employer still completes induction, policy training, shadowing and workplace competency sign-off before you work unsupervised.

Face to face courses

Practical, discussion led sessions delivered by practitioners at your home or ours. Our programme includes, but is not limited to:

  • Appropriate Adults
  • Emotionally Based School Avoidance
  • Exploitation and Missing from Care
  • First Aid
  • Food Hygiene
  • GDPR
  • Harmful Sexual Behaviour
  • Health and Safety
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Neurodiversity, including ADHD and Autism
  • Online Safety
  • Recording and Reporting
  • Safeguarding
  • Safer Caring
  • Self-harm, Mental Health and Ligature
  • Substance Misuse
  • Therapeutic Behaviour Support
  • Therapeutic Care Planning and Permanence
